Online Courses NOT Connected to IFAPA

These online courses have been approved for foster parent credit (with two exceptions - see below). If you have issues with any of the online courses listed below, please contact the organization affiliated with that particular class. IFAPA will not be able to help resolve any issues with these classes since they are not connected to or operated by IFAPA.

 
Online Foster Parents Courses (FosterParents.com)

In Iowa, foster parents needs six hours of training annually to renew their foster care license. Foster parents can obtain a maximum of three hours of their training through online courses offered by www.FosterParents.com; the other three hours must be obtained through a group setting. To view a list of online courses and the cost, click here. These courses are not affiliated with IFAPA, if you have questions about the FosterParents.com online courses call 818-998-4462. Please be sure to read the online training directions to know time limits allowed to complete the online class. Please note: The following two courses under the category Reactive Attachment Disorder, titled Bonding and Attachment Workshop I and Bonding and Attachment Workshop II are NOT approved for training credit.

 
Online Mandatory Child Abuse Reporter Course (HealthCEOnline.com)

The CE Solutions Group offers 2.5 hours of Mandatory Child Abuse Reporter Course on their website. CE Solutions Group offers three different Mandatory Reporter courses online, but only one is approved for foster parents to take. The only course that foster parents can receive credit for is the course titled Child Abuse for IA Mandatory Reporters. Even though this course is worth 2.5 hours of credit, foster parents will only receive 2 hours of foster parent credit. Cost: $16.95 per person

Instructions for the CE Solutions Group online course
Step 1 Visit www.healthceonline.com
Step 2 Click on the green button titled: SIGN UP NOW
Step 3 Complete the User Registration form. On this form you will be asked to give an e-mail address and make your own password. It will ask for your license number, license state and license expiration date. This test is also for nurse professionals and that is why a license number is requested. Foster parents can put a 0 (zero) in the license number field, select Iowa for the license state and select any random date in the license expiration date field.
Step 4 Select the program you would like to take: Child Abuse for IA Mandatory Reporters. PLEASE NOTE: The CE Solutions Group website offers three different Mandatory Reporter Classes online, but only one is approved for foster parents to take. The only class that foster parents can receive credit for is the course titled Child Abuse for IA Mandatory Reporters.
Step 5 Once you have selected the appropriate course, you will be asked to enter your credit card information to pay for the course.
Step 6 Begin the Child Abuse for IA Mandatory Reporters course. There are four sections of reading materials that you will need to read. It is highly recommended that you print these sections to keep and use to refer back to while taking the required test.
Step 7 Take required test and print off training certificate. You must score 75% or higher on your test in order to pass. If you pass the test, you will be able to print off your own Mandatory Reporter Training certificate. If you do not pass the test the first time, you can retake the test as many times as you need without being charged additional fees. If you do not have a printer or lose your certificate, make sure your write down which e-mail address and password used to register, so you can log-in at a later date to print off a training certificate.

Online Mandatory Child Abuse Reporter Course (PrepareIowa.com)

The Prepare Iowa Learning Management System at the University of Iowa offers a free online Mandatory Child Abuse Reporter training course. This online course is available through the Prepare Iowa Learning Management System. You must first create an account (instructions are below). Once you have satisfied all of the requirements for the course, your progress record will be reviewed within 7 business days, and your Transcript in the Prepare Iowa system will be updated to reflect the completion. You can then view and print your Certificate of Completion, at any time, from that point on. Instructions for the Prepare Iowa online course
Step 1 Visit www.prepareiowa.com
Step 2 Click on CREATE NEW ACCOUNT at the bottom of the page
Step 3 Create your own Login ID and Password. Enter your name and email address and click NEXT
Step 4 Select Manager - Type in your manager's name and click SEARCH. YOU MUST SEARCH BEFORE YOU CAN MOVE ON TO THE NEXT STEP. If you do not have a Manager, type in anything, and then search. Once the search results come up, either select your Manager, or else select the checkbox that says "Click this checkbox if you are unable to select a manager at this time...". Then, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the NEXT button.
Step 5 Select Organization - Choose Prepare Iowa LMS at www.prepareiowa.com and click NEXT
Step 6 Select Job Title - Type in your Job Title and click SEARCH. YOU MUST SEARCH BEFORE YOU CAN MOVE ON TO THE NEXT STEP. If you cannot find your Job Title, type in anything, and then search. Once the search results come up, either select your Job Title, or else select the checkbox that says "Click this checkbox if you are unable to select a job title at this time...". Then, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the CREATE button.
Step 7 Click on COURSE CATALOG in the left-hand navigation menu
Step 8 Type "Mandatory" in the search field, click the orange SEARCH button
Step 9 Click on the orange GO button next to ENROLL
Step 10 Confirm your enrollment by clicking on the orange ENROLL button at the bottom of the page

You can now click on the course title to launch the course.

Foster parents are approved to take this online course. Please follow the course instructions. In order to successfully complete this course, you MUST:

  1. View all content pages as stated on “Steps to Complete This Course”
  2. Watch ALL four sections of video presentation entirely
  3. Score 80% or higher on the Post Test
  4. Spend the minimum of 2 hours for the entire course

Please note: Only the person logged into the course can receive credit for the training – groups cannot view the content together for credit. APDF of your certificate of completion will be emailed to you within a week once you complete the course requirements. Please read "Certificate of Completion" page in the course.
