Friends of Children in Foster Care Program
The Friends of Children in Foster Care Program helps children in foster care receive funds in order to participate in extra-curricular activities, such as obtaining music instruments, senior pictures or attending prom, swimming lessons or summer camp.
Who is Eligible to Receive to Funding?
Funding is available only for children currently in Iowa’s foster care system. Children placed in pre-adoptive homes or who have been adopted are not eligible for Friends grants.

How to Apply for a Friends Grant?
To be considered for Friends funding, please complete an application and send it along with copies of receipts/invoices to the address listed below. Applications that are received without receipts/invoices cannot be processed. Please allow at least 10 business days for applications to be reviewed. You will be notified in writing of the decision by IFAPA staff. Decisions will be made on an individual basis.
APPLICATION FOR CHILDREN BIRTH TO AGE 15
The maximum grant request limit for children age birth to age 15 is $200 per child per fiscal year. IFAPA’s fiscal year runs July 1 - June 30.
APPLICATION FOR CHILDREN AGE 16 & ABOVE
The maximum grant request limit is $300 (for age 16 & older) per child per fiscal year. IFAPA’s fiscal year runs July 1 - June 30.
- If a check is to be written out directly to a business we need a copy of an invoice. If items have already been purchased and you would like to be reimbursed, a copy of all receipts must be submitted with your application. Applications that are received without receipts/invoices, cannot be processed.
- If the item(s) requested will be purchased from a major retailer (Wal-Mart, Target, etc.), IFAPA can only reimburse for those items with a copy of the receipt. IFAPA cannot write out a check directly to the major retailer.
- Every item or opportunity that is granted is meant for the child, and must be taken with the child if they leave their current placement.

All of the proceeds from t-shirt sales will help IFAPA’s Friends of Children in Foster Care program which is solely funded by community grants, personal donations and IFAPA fundraisers.
