Foster parents needs six (6) hours of training
annually to renew their foster care license.
Training is a key to parenting the special needs many
foster and adoptive children exhibit. IFAPA offers the
following six-hour trainings for foster, adoptive
and kinship families. The
IFAPA training schedule runs September
through January and February through June.
IFAPA DOES NOT OFFER TRAININGS IN JULY & AUGUST.
It is crucial that you
plan ahead for these trainings in order to have them
completed prior to your re-licensure date.
Some of the classes fill
up quickly, while other classes must be cancelled
because they do not meet the requirement of having
at least 10 people enrolled.
Schedule:
Each training class is worth 6 hours of foster
parent training credit and is held on Saturdays from
9:00am to 4:30pm,
unless otherwise noted. There will be a
one-hour lunch break, on your own.
Cost:
There is no cost for foster/adoptive/kinship
parents to attend the trainings listed
below.
Child Care:
Children are not permitted at these trainings and
child care will not be provided.

- Name of training
- Date of training
- Location of training
- Name(s) of attendees
- Attendees mailing address and phone number
Driving Directions to a Training Class:
After you have registered for a class you can expect
a confirmation letter in the mail about
one week prior to the training date.
This confirmation letter will tell you the location
of the class and include maps for the training
location.
Inclement Weather
– Class Cancellations
During the winter
months, bad weather can happen. We try our best to avoid
cancelling trainings. If the trainer is able to make it to the
training location, IFAPA will still hold the class for those
families that need to get their training hours completed. If
you feel the weather is too dangerous to travel, please stay home
and you can register for a different upcoming class. If a
class needs to be cancelled, we will make every effort to notify all
attendees of the cancellation via phone and on the home page of our
website. IFAPA will also list all class cancellations on our
Training Coordinator’s voicemail. If you would like to find
out if any classes have been cancelled due to weather, please call
800-277-8145 ext. 2.

Support Groups Trainings
Many foster and adoptive support
groups offer two-hour trainings opportunities during
their meeting.
Online Trainings
Foster parents can earn a maximum of
3 credit hours online trainings, the remaining three
hours must be completed in a group setting.

approx. $5.00 per course. PLEASE NOTE: The
following two courses under the category
