Current Training Schedule
Foster parents need six hours of training annually to renew their foster care license. Training is a key to parenting the special needs many foster and adoptive children exhibit. IFAPA offers the following three-hour and six-hour trainings for foster, adoptive and kinship families.
IMPORTANT NEWS FOR FOSTER PARENTS NEEDING CPR & FIRST AID
IFAPA understands that this is a new requirement that DHS has issued for foster families; however, please be aware that IFAPA is not able to provide enough CPR trainings to accommodate all of the foster families in Iowa. CPR and First Aid classes have limited spaces due to the required learning equipment needs (CPR dummies) to the ratio of students. IFAPA will not be offering any additional CPR & First Aid classes until this fall. The fall training schedule will come out in July, so please watch your mailboxes during that time and watch our website for spot availability. Our CPR & First Aid classes will fill up VERY QUICKLY. IFAPA advises families to seek other CPR and First Aid options this spring and summer to fulfill your requirement in a timely manner (see the CPR & First Aid training page for other CPR options).
About IFAPA Trainings
All three-hour and six-hour trainings are held on Saturdays, unless otherwise noted. Please be sure to double check the time of your training class. Six-hour classes will provide a one-hour lunch break, on your own. Children are not permitted at these trainings and child care will not be provided. All of IFAPA's trainings are approved for foster parent credit. There is no cost for foster, adoptive and kinship parents to attend the trainings listed below. After registering for a class, you can expect a confirmation e-mail about one week prior to the training date. This confirmation e-mail will tell you the location of the class and include information for the training location. Please be sure IFAPA has your e-mail address. For those who do not have an e-mail address, a confirmation letter will be mailed out.
PLEASE NOTE: IFAPA does not offer trainings during the months of July and August, so please plan accordingly. Some of the classes fill up quickly, while other classes must be cancelled because they do not meet the requirement of having at least 10 people enrolled. For questions about inclement weather / class cancellations, see the training requirements page.
